Dr Michael Hardcastle
BVSc., MVS (Hons), Diplomate ACVP, Registered Veterinary Specialist – Anatomic Pathology
Michael is a board certified anatomic pathologist (ACVP) with additional skills in cytology and clinical pathology.
Michael earned his BVSc. from Massey University before spending 10 years in small animal practice, both in Auckland and the United Kingdom. Looking for a new challenge, Michael was subsequently awarded a scholarship to study Veterinary Pathology at Massey and graduated with a Master of Veterinary Studies (Hons.) in 2011. After completing this program, Michael spent a year as a Senior Resident in the busy teaching and diagnostic service of the Pathobiology Department at Auburn University in Alabama, USA while preparing to sit the American College of Veterinary Pathology Board examinations, which he passed in September 2012. He subsequently returned to Auckland and has worked for Awanui Veterinary since the end of 2012.
Mike is very enthusiastic about pathology, and enjoys sharing his knowledge and experience with the veterinarians, clients and animals of the region. His particular interests include immunohistochemistry and dermatopathology.
Outside of work, Michael enjoys spending time with his family and pets, and keeps fit by training for sprint triathlons.
