They are also more likely to suffer from arthritis, back pain, ligament strain, cardiovascular disease, skin disease, liver disease, diabetes, urinary tract problems and pancreatitis. Overweight pets can suffer from exercise or heat intolerance, and the extra weight can make surgical procedures, some medications and anaesthesia more risky.
